Tell us a little about what you’re playing in your Spotlight series recital in San Francisco.
First of all, I am beyond excited to return to Davies Symphony Hall, this time for a recital. I had a debut with the SF Symphony Orchestra for Lunar New Year’s concert 2022, and it is a great opportunity to meet the San Francisco audience with a program that has more variety and allows me to showcase various styles of music. It is a powerful program including Romantic and impressionistic works by Wieniawski, Debussy, Szymanowski, and Sibelius that I find particularly colorful and dreamy.

How do you know when a piece is ready for an audience?
We never know when it is ready. I always faces new surprises whenever I meet new audiences and new concert venues. It can be both—good surprises or bad ones—but luckily, most of them are good surprises and can also become a new inspiration.

What’s your routine like on concert days? How do you get ready for a performance?
It can differ depending on what type of concert it is, whether it’s a concerto or a recital. For a recital concert day, I prefer to start rehearsing with a pianist long before the concert day and do not rehearse too long on the concert day. I have a short nap before the concert since it requires a longer time of concentration and energy. Sometimes, having bananas can help, but I don’t eat much before concerts.
