Ross Jamie Collins

Salonen Fellow in the Colburn School Conservatory of Music’s Negaunee Conducting Program

Finnish-British conductor Ross Jamie Collins is a part of the inaugural class of Salonen Fellows in the Negaunee Conducting Program at the Colburn Conservatory of Music. He was formerly a student of Jorma Panula at the Panula Academy in Finland and began his studies with Esa-Pekka Salonen at Colburn in the fall of 2019. Born in Nottingham, England, Mr. Collins has been living in Helsinki since 2008. In 2017 he founded the Symphony Orchestra ROSSO and in 2018 was awarded third prize in the International Jorma Panula Conducting Competition.  

 Highlights of the 2022–23 season include a debut on the San Francisco Symphony’s SoundBox series, an outreach series with Colburn’s Zipper Orchestra, and a chamber orchestra performance of Haydn’s Second Cello Concerto Colburn. He assists Mr. Salonen on a European tour with the San Francisco Symphony and assists Courtney Lewis and Simone Menezes with the Colburn Orchestra. Mr. Collins recently made his conducting debuts with the Philharmonia Orchestra, Turku Philharmonic, South Denmark Philharmonic, and Kirkkonummi Chamber Orchestra.  

 As a student of Mr. Salonen, Mr. Collins has assisted the Philharmonia, NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, Houston Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, and San Francisco Symphony. He is currently part of the Philharmonia’s Emerging Artists program and is a Colburn Artist.
